MiniPaint.art Exclusive – Adrian « Sunwalker89 » – Chat with a Hobby Painter

On a regular basis, MiniPaint.art will have the pleasure and honor to chat with a non-professional hobby painter. Not all hobby painters are world-known artists but MiniPaint.art thinks that all enthousiasts deserve the possibility to share their passion with the most.

Today, the painter under the lights is Adrian, also known on Reddit’s /r/minipainting as Sunwalker89.

Who are you? Where do you live?

Hello readers! My name is Adrian currently mostly known as Sunwalker89 on reddit and I’m working as an engineer everyday. I live in Poland in the Czestochowa city.

Why & how did you start painting miniatures?

I’ve always been a fan of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k lore and played games like Dawn of War or Dark Omen. When I was younger I liked to paint, draw and build plastic planes with my father. Painting miniatures was a matter of time. Finally I started in december 2016 when i was 27. Me and my brother bought a box of Horus Heresy Betrayal at Calth. Those were the first miniatures I ever painted and played with and I fell in love with this hobby.

After that I started collecting Stormcast Eternals, Khorne Bloodbound and Flesh Eater Courts (together about 4000 points).

But I did’nt have enought time to play as much as I wanted and I started to focus more on painting than playing, and then pushed myself to try something different with smoother blends and NMM elements and when GW realesd Noise Marine I decided to paint it this way.

What is your paint style and inspirations?

My painting style depends on what I’m paintig for. If I paint something for Killteam or Warcry I try to not spend tons of time painting single miniature. I watched a lot how Richard Grey is painting in some sketchy way.

If I want to spend more time on the mini I try to have smoother blends and I use more glazes and even loaded brush technique which is mastered by Ben Kommets.

How many time do you spend on the hobby each week ?

That actually depends how busy I am during the week obviously, but I think I spend about 2 hours per day. Sometimes on the weekend spend couple more hours.

What paints & brushes are you using?

I mostly use GW and Vallejo paints, but I think vallejo have better paint pots. My favourite brushes are from Winsor & Newton Series 7 sizes 0, 1, 2 and Raphael 8404 but I also use Escoda brushes.

Any hobby painter hints & tips you want to share with us?

The first time I saw painted miniature with NMM technique I thought I’ll never paint like that. I’m still learnig a lot of things and there is a lot of more experienced painters than me but I think the key to improve is to paint more miniatures slowly and trying different techniques.

Do you have a blog? Youtube, Instagram or Facebook?

I mostly post my work on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/user/Sunwalker89/)  but few weeks ago i created fresh Instagram account and starting post also there: (https://www.instagram.com/sunwalker_89/)
